Yaaaaoooohh !... As Tarzan on the green jungle, this is Spot jumping all over!... He is going to play the first Ataxx on PC, created from the first game of 1988, as it is explained on our page Origins.
From this introductive page, we can go in the options, in the edition of the board (to place the blocks, symetrical or not) and in the game.
The options are rich and similar to the Infection and Leland Ataxx ones. There are 2, 3 or 4 players, computer or human, with time limits or not (use the left and right click of the mouse). The computer has 5 levels of strenght. But the "Extras" button seems to be disabled in the game to download here.
(you see that this screenshot is very similar to the the first Ataxx screenshot shown in our page Amiga Infection)
The beginning positions are classical, the blocks are holes where is seen the green found, moving (a little) as the plasma of Infection and Leland Ataxx. There are many animations of the Spot pieces.
Bad looser !
But these animations are too slow add may not be done shorter.
The character of Spot, or Cool Spot, or Seven-up Cool Spot, refers to The Seven-up Company, Dallas, TX 1990. This company (selling drinks) is now Dr Pepper / Seven Up Corporation and has a Web site.
Even now, the cool character of Spot is well known, as shown by these two animations.
Red spots with sunglasses...
This game has the copyright 1990 Virgin Mastertronic, and the copyright of Seven-up. Also a version was done on the Nintendo Gameboy, see our page Gameboy Spot. And it is possible that it was ported ont others platforms. The programmer of these updates was Graeme Devine, who also worked on the game Microscope of 7th Guest.
Out of Ataxx, an other game, called "Cool Spot", uses the Spot character, as this one for Dos (408 Kb, zip format), also existing on several Nintendo platforms.
Back to Ataxx and this first game for PC. You may dowload it, from this site, by clicking there (439 Kb size, zip format). If your unzipper asks for launching setup.exe, answer no (it is for options, not for installation). You only have to put the content of the zip file in a folder and then launch spot.exe to play , setup.exe for updating some parameters. And to quit quickly, use Alt Q and Q in Qwerty keyboard, Alt A and A in Azerty.
Thanks to Jeff Mc Coy for the new discovery of this game (everyone seemed to have lost it...)
