Marten Toonder, born in 1912, is a dutch comics author, who, in the 50' and 60' years, created a studio with the best dutch drawers. He was called the "dutch Walt Disney", because his strips and films have an important diffusion. But we see him, at first, as the greater fables writer of the XXth century. "Tom Poes and Mr Bommel", his main serial, the one he invested himself, the one he retired in Ireland, is a succession of fables about the evolution of our modern world.
The texts of the adventures of Mr Bommel have a particular importance. Marten Toonder is indeed known in the Netherlands as a writer. If all along the 45 years of publication, we easily see the evolution of the drawing, the text evolution is also strong and allows to gather all publics, children and adults. In the 70' years, Marten Toonder declined to put text in balloons, for keeping the wealth of his texts and pictures, until the beginning of the 90' years.
